Asia Cup 2025: Mohammad Nabi Blasts Five Sixes in a Row, Ignites Afghanistan's Innings Against Sri Lanka - Watch!

Mohammad Nabi unleashed his fury against Sri Lanka as he smashed five consecutive sixes against Dunith Wellalage in Match 11 of the Asia Cup 2025 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. The Afghan batter gave the perfect finish to Afghanistan’s innings as he lifted them to a good total of 169/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Afghanistan were reeling at 137/7 after 19 overs with onus on Nabi to get them off to a strong finish. The 40-year-old brought his experience to the fore and annihilated Wellalage. He started the over by clobbering the left-arm spinner over long off for the first maximum, followed by two more over long on.

Wellalage tried to go full and wide outside off stump, but ended up overstepping on the popping crease and conceded a no-ball to add to his misery. He got the same treatment on the fourth delivery as Nabi whacked him over long off.

The Sri Lankan spinner even tried to pitch the ball short but was launched over deep mid wicket for the fifth maximum of the over. Nabi had the golden chance to enter an elite company by smashing the sixth ball for a maximum as well. However, he failed to time the full delivery bowled outside off stump and could only get a single.

Despite that, the over worked wonders for Afghanistan as they Nabi managed to get 32 runs from it. He also brought up his half century off just 20 balls, the joint-fastest by an Afghanistan batter along with Azmatullah Omarzai. Nabi was eventually dismissed run out for 60 (22) as his innings was studded with three fours and six sixes.

Nabi added 55 runs off just 18 balls with Noor Ahmad for the eighth wicket, out of which he scored 48 off just 14 balls. Meanwhile, Wellalage achieved the ignominious feat of second-most expensive over (32 runs) by a Sri Lankan bowler after Akila Dananjaya (36 runs), who got hit for six sixes by Kieron Pollard in 2021.
