Promoted to No. 3, Green strode to the crease after a record opening stand and launched a brutal assault on South Africa's depleted bowling attack. He remained unbeaten on 118 from just 55 deliveries, striking eight sixes and six fours, powering Australia to a mammoth 431 for 2—their second-highest total in ODI history.

Captain Mitchell Marsh and opener Travis Head laid the perfect foundation after Australia opted to bat first, compiling a colossal 250-run partnership—their highest-ever opening stand against South Africa and the fifth-best by an Australian pair in ODIs.

Head was in sublime form, racing to his seventh ODI century in just 80 balls before eventually falling for a fluent 142 off 103, featuring 16 boundaries and five sixes. Marsh followed with a more measured century - 100 off 106 - but was caught behind the very next delivery after bringing up the milestone.

Green then took centre stage, accelerating from the outset and adding an unbroken 164-run stand with Alex Carey, who chipped in with an unbeaten 50 off 37 balls. Green's whirlwind century ranks as the 11th-fastest in ODI history, highlighting his explosive potential in Australia's middle order.

On a flat Mackay pitch with little margin for error, South Africa's bowlers were put to the sword. The seamers, in particular, bore the brunt of the punishment, with Wiaan Mulder returning figures of 0 for 93 from seven overs - the most expensive spell by a South African in ODI cricket.

Spinner Keshav Maharaj (1 for 57) was the only wicket-taker, while Deon Bosch (0 for 68) showed glimpses of control in an otherwise bruising day for the visitors.

Despite the thrashing, South Africa had already sealed the three-match series 2-0, following back-to-back wins in Cairns and the second ODI in Mackay. Australia, playing for pride, ensured they didn't leave empty-handed - with Green's dazzling knock providing the perfect exclamation point.

Australia registered their second-highest total in One-Day International cricket by amassing 431 for 2 after electing to bat in the third and final ODI against South Africa. Their highest-ever ODI score also came against the Proteas - 434 for 4 in Johannesburg in 2006 - a match remembered for South Africa's extraordinary successful chase.

This is just the third time Australia have surpassed the 400-run mark in ODIs, with Sunday's mammoth total set up by centuries from their top three batters - Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Cameron Green.
