India are set to rest Jasprit Bumrah for their final Asia Cup group-stage match against Oman, as the team looks to keep their strike bowler fresh ahead of the demanding Super Four phase, as per a PTI report. India began their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a nine-wicket win over hosts UAE on 9 September, and five days later, they beat Pakistan by seven wickets to secure the top spot in their group with a game to spare.
Their last league match against Oman on 19 September is now a formality, with qualification for the Super Four stage already confirmed. Suryakumar Yadav’s side earned this spot comfortably. India’s decision to rest Bumrah is a practical move, noting that with the possibility of playing up to four matches in seven days if they reach the final, managing his workload has become a priority.
The 30-year-old pacer has been in fine form, returning figures of two for 28 against Pakistan to move past Bhuvneshwar Kumar as India's fourth-highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals. In 72 matches, he has taken 92 wickets at an average of 17.67 and an economy rate of 6.29.
Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are the leading contenders to replace Jasprit Bumrah in India’s playing XI. For Arshdeep, the match carries extra significance—he needs just one wicket to become the eighth Indian bowler to claim 100 T20I wickets. His selection would not only bolster India’s attack but also give him the chance to reach a major career milestone.
The match against Oman gives India's batsmen a chance to spend more time at the crease. Wins over the UAE and Pakistan didn't provide enough practice for some top and middle-order players, which the team hopes to fix before the tougher Super Four games.
Kuldeep Yadav's three for 18 against Pakistan pushed him past Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin into sixth place on India's T20I wicket-takers list. With 76 wickets in 42 matches, he gives India important depth as they get ready for tougher opponents next week.
