Kane Williamson, Key New Zealand Players Ink T20 World Cup 2026 Deals

Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Seifert and Kane Williamson have agreed terms to play on New Zealand Cricket’s (NZC) international casual playing agreements for the 2025-26 season.

The move ensures the five players remain part of New Zealand’s high-performance system, receiving coaching, medical and mental skills support, along with access to gym and cricket facilities. These agreements are designed to give players flexibility while keeping them available for key international commitments.

To be eligible for the casual contracts, the players committed themselves to New Zealand’s upcoming ICC T20 World Cup campaign, scheduled for February and March 2026 in India. The group will also be available for a specified number of series in the build-up to the tournament.

All five players will be selectable for New Zealand’s T20I home series against Australia, England, and the West Indies. However, Kane Williamson has made himself unavailable for the Australia leg of the fixtures.

NZC CEO Scott Weenink said the arrangements were particularly important in a T20 World Cup year.

“With such a pinnacle event on the horizon we wanted to ensure our best T20 players were ready and available to push for inclusion,” Weenink said.

“The casual agreements are a commitment from the players to NZC and New Zealand cricket, and in return NZC will offer our full support to these players as part of our high-performance system. The message from the players is that playing for New Zealand is hugely important to them and I’m pleased we’ve been able to agree terms to have them casually contracted for the coming season.”

The development comes just months after Kane Williamson announced he would not accept a central contract for 2024-25 and would also step down as captain in ODIs and T20Is. The 35-year-old said the decision was made to prolong his international career and balance overseas opportunities.

“Helping push the team forward across the formats is something I’m very passionate about and something I want to keep contributing towards,” Williamson said in an earlier release by New Zealand Cricket. “However, pursuing an overseas opportunity during the New Zealand summer means I’m unable to accept a central contract offer.”

The New Zealand squad for the T20I series against Australia will be announced on Wednesday, September 17.
