
Philip Salt’s sensational innings of 89 (46) guided England to a four-wicket win over Ireland in the first T20I on Wednesday, September 17 at The Village, Dublin. Fresh from a record-breaking 141* (60) against South Africa in the 2nd T20I, Salt continued his prolific form and helped England chase down 197 in 17.4 overs.
Salt and Jos Buttler (28 off 10) once again got England off to a terrific start, adding 74 runs for the first wicket off just 28 balls. Courtesy of their quick-fire stand, England finished powerplay on 84/1 as Salt brought up his half-century off just 20 balls. After losing his opening partner, Salt was well supported by captain Jacob Bethell (24 off 16) and Sam Curran (27 off 15).

He even added 50 runs off 30 balls with Curran for the fourth wicket. Salt unfortunately, missed out on his record-levelling fifth T20I century as he got holed out at deep point for 89.
Following his dismissal, Will Jacks and Jamie Overton took England over the line. Matthew Humphreys (2/44) and Graham Hume (2/36) emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Ireland, scalping two wickets each.
Earlier in the day, after being put in to bat first, Ireland Paul Stirling (34 off 22) and Ross Adair (26 off 25) added 57 runs for the first wicket off 44 balls. Liam Dawson got the first success for England, dismissing Adair, while Rashid accounted for Stirling to leave Ireland on 67/2 in 8.3 overs.
Following their dismissal, Harry Tector (61* off 36) and Lorcan Tucker (55 off 36) got involved in a massive 123-run stand off 68 balls to help Ireland reach 190.
Their partnership came to an end as Jamie Overton accounted for Tucker on the penultimate ball of the match but was smashed for a maximum by George Dockrell (6* off 1) on the last ball, which helped Ireland finish on 196/3 in 20 overs.
