India football star Sunil Chhetri revealed that Virat Kohli shared his fitness test scores with him from London. Recently, there were reports claiming that Kohli gave his mandatory pre-season fitness test to BCCI (Board of control for Cricket in India) in London, which sparked criticism from a section of fans.
On the other hand, India Test captain Shubman Gill, ODI captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, among others had to travel to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to give their pre-season tests. The development wasn’t received well by many as people slammed the double standards of the BCCI.
On the Desi Premier League podcast, while revealing his admiration for Kohli’s disciplined fitness routine, Chhetri mentioned that the star batter shared his fitness tests scores with him from London. The former India football captain didn’t specify which tests Kohli had been giving, but given the recent reports, it may well have been the mandatory BCCI tests.
“A few days back, he (Kohli) was sending me his scores of one of the tests he was doing in London. It is so addictive, and it is so good to know these kind of people. On your bad days when you feel a bit lethargic, you see them and think, ‘let’s go’. When you are at the top, everyone wants to be a Virat Kohli or Ronaldo, and for these two to keep their place is unbelievable,” Chhetri said.
Apart from the now standard Yo-Yo test, a DXA Scan, which is a simplified method to test bone density, was also done during the fitness test conducted by the BCCI. Earlier, Kohli had made his Yo-Yo Test score public in 2023 by sharing it on his Instagram account. It led to swift action by the BCCI, which verbally told players not to share their fitness scores online as it could lead to a breach of contract clause. Meanwhile, Kohli will return to international cricket in the three-match ODI series against Australia in October.
The star batter last played for India in the Champions Trophy 2025 and scored a hundred in a successful chase against Pakistan in the league stage. He also scored a match-winning 84 vs Australia in the semi-final. Kohli announced his retirement from Tests in May 2025 and now will only feature in ODIs, having also retired from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph.
