WWE’s own power couple Cody Rhodes and Brandi Rhodes surprised fans and followers alike with the joyful arrival of their second daughter, Leilani Ella Runnels, on Friday, August 29. The announcement was heartfelt yet completely unexpected. Brandi took to Instagram to share the news with an adorable photo of her holding her newborn’s hand along with the caption, “Welcome to the world, Leilani Ella Runnels. We are in love. Thank you God for answered prayers. Cody + Brandi + Libby + Lani = Love”.
Also jumping right into the celebration was Cody, who reposted with a snapshot of their older daughter Liberty (Libby) decked out in a “Big Sister” hat, casting out the perfect smile of sibling pride. Cody has openly talked about how fatherhood transformed him. Wrestling, as he used to put it, was inherently “selfish,” but Liberty shifted that focus entirely off him. He’s now no longer striving solely for personal glory but instead aimsto build the best life possible for his family. He also opened up about his experience with fatherhood to PEOPLE, saying:
“I had the best life provided by pro wrestling. I want to give her an even, you know, more special.. another level of that.”
“And she's changed everything for me. You have to go home and report back to a three and a half year old who doesn't care if you just wrestled in front of 80,000 people. She cares if you make funny noises and there's ice cream, you know? So changed everything for me in the best of ways.”
Brandi’s journey to motherhood, on the other hand, particularly this time around, was one not without its own hurdles. It turns out that the duo had intentionally kept Leilani’s arrival under the wraps, especially given Brandi’s health history. Earlier this year, Brandi underwent surgery for endometritis, managing a very high-risk pregnancy along with being 42 years old, which prompted the couple to wait until everything was safe before making the grand announcement.
Their growing family now includes Liberty, age 4, and the newborn Leilani, plus Pharaoh, who is their adorable Siberian Husky. On the career front, Cody continues to be WWE’s Undisputed Champion and the reigning King of the Ring, a title he wears with both pride and a newfound purpose. He’s currently off TV after SummerSlam, but rumour has it that he’s shooting for the “Street Fighter” live action film, possibly as Guile, while also juggling title plans back home. Brandi, who retired from in-ring performance back in 2022, continues to share the spotlight as a WWE ring announcer and has also previously held executive roles in AEW.
Cody and Brandi Rhodes have welcomed a beautiful new member to Team Rhodes, Leilani Ella Runnels, with all the love and sports show drama that all fans adore. Wrapped in a heartfelt surprise announcement, this addition marks another milestone for the wrestling power couple.
