Alcaraz Claims US Open Crown and No. 1 Ranking; Nadal Offers Congratulations

Tennis great Rafael Nadal congratulated Carlos Alcaraz after the Spanish star defeated Jannik Sinner in the men's singles final to win the US Open 2025 and reclaim the World No. 1 ranking on Sunday. Alcaraz beat the Italian 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at Flushing Meadows, avenging his Wimbledon loss earlier this summer. It was his second title in New York, having lifted his maiden Grand Slam crown there in 2022.

The victory made Alcaraz the second-youngest man in the professional era, which began in 1968, to win six majors – after Bjorn Borg. He also snapped Sinner's staggering 27-match winning streak at hard-court majors, denting the Italian's remarkable season. Following the triumph, Nadal posted an elegant message on social media: "Congratulations @carlosalcaraz! Champion again of the @usopen and number 1! Congratulations on all the work behind this great season."

Alcaraz, who drew attention with his surprise buzz cut at the start of the tournament and entertained fans with his golf swing celebrations, leaves New York on a 13-match winning run, boasting seven titles and only six defeats in 2025.

"I want to start with Jannik-it's unbelievable what you're doing the whole season, the great level during every tournament that you're playing... I'm seeing you more than my family," said Alcaraz, who now leads their head-to-head 10-5.

"It's great to share a court, to share the locker room and to share everything with you. I'm just really proud about the people I have around me. Every achievement that I'm having is because of you, thanks to you this one is yours."

"My team, my family, I am really lucky to have you guys, to be honest," he added at the trophy presentation. "The hard work you do makes me even better-not only in the professional part, but in the personal part as well. Every achievement that I am making is thanks to you, and this one is no less, it's also yours."

Sinner, in return, was gracious in defeat, quick to congratulate his rival who continues to lead the season with seven tour-level titles and 61 match wins.

"You are doing an amazing job," Sinner told Alcaraz and his team. "I know there's a lot of hard work behind this performance today, you were better than me. Enjoy it. It's a great moment."
