Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the senior men's hockey team for their Asia Cup triumph on Sunday. PM Modi said India's 4-1 win over Korea in the final is special as the Men in Blue ended an eight-year wait for the continental title, beating the defending champions in the summit clash in Rajgir, Bihari.
India were undefeated en route to their fourth Asia Cup title. In the final against Korea, the Asian giants rode on goals from Dilpreet Singh's double, Sukhjeet Singh and Amit Rohidas's goals to outclass Korea in a one-sided final.
PM Modi also heaped praise on Rajgir, which hosted the eight-team Asia Cup hockey tournament for the first time in history. The Rajgir Sports Complex, which is fast becoming the cradle of sports revolution in the east Indian state, witnessed packed stands on all days of the tournament. For the final, the hockey stadium was packed to the rafters as locals turned up in huge numbers, supporting the men's team in the national sport.
"Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for their splendid win in the Asia Cup 2025 held in Rajgir, Bihar. This win is even more special because they have defeated the defending champions, South Korea!" PM Modi said in a post on X.
"I would also like to appreciate the Government and people of Bihar, whose efforts have ensured Rajgir hosted a brilliant tournament and has become a vibrant sporting hub," he added.
