Ishan Kishan, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, has been making waves during his time in County cricket. Beyond his impressive batting performances for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship Division 1, Kishan recently showcased his versatility with a surprising bowling spell that left fans amused.
He was seen imitating Harbhajan Singh's action, during a drawn match against Somerset in Taunton.
During a match against Somerset, Ishan Kishan was given the opportunity to bowl an over, and he didn't disappoint. He bowled both off-spin and leg-spin, entertaining the crowd with his variations and imitations.
His first delivery was a near-perfect imitation of Harbhajan Singh's action. Bowling over the wicket to Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Kishan remarkably mirrored Singh's iconic style.
Switching things up, he then bowled a couple of conventional off-spinners before changing to around the wicket and channeling Shane Warne to deliver leg-spin. The final delivery, though wide, was generously not called so by the umpire.
The over turned out to be the last of the match, with Kishan finishing with figures of 0 for 1. A video clip of his bowling quickly went viral on social media.
In the same match, Somerset declared at 238 for 4 in their second innings, led by Kohler-Cadmore’s unbeaten 147. Somerset had earlier posted 379 in the first innings. Nottinghamshire responded strongly with 509, featuring centuries from Ben Slater (124) and Jack Haynes (157).
Ishan Kishan contributed a brisk 77, including eight boundaries and two sixes. Previously, in his County debut against Yorkshire, he had scored a quickfire 87 off 98 balls.
Having last represented India in a Test match in July 2023, Ishan Kishan is utilizing the break after the IPL to maintain his form. Despite not being selected for the tour of England, he remains focused and ready. In IPL 2025, he scored 354 runs in 14 matches for SunRisers Hyderabad.
Although he hasn't played for India since November 2023, Kishan is ensuring he is prepared for any opportunities in the 2024–25 season.
