During the second innings of the Edgbaston Test, Rishabh Pant showcased his resilience not only with the bat but also with his words, effectively silencing Harry Brook's attempt at unsettling him.
Rishabh Pant celebrates a half-century against England.
As Pant was building a quickfire innings, Brook tried to get under his skin by asking, "What's your fastest hundred?". The intent was clear: to goad Pant into reckless shots.
Pant, however, remained composed. He responded calmly, "In Test cricket, maybe 80–90 minutes," referring to his measured approach in previous Test centuries.
Brook pressed on, mentioning his own rapid century in the IPL. "The fastest hundred I've hit was in 55 balls—you could do that today," he baited, hoping Pant would take the aggressive bait.
But Pant refused to be drawn into the trap. With a smile, he shut down Brook's sledging: “It’s okay. I’m not too greedy for records. If it happens, it happens.”
Earlier, after scoring 25 in the first innings, Pant played a counter-attacking knock of 65 off just 58 balls, including eight fours and three sixes.
